There are many treatments and drugs that can be used to help make the nail fungus go away. If self-care strategies and over the counter non -prescriptions have not helped a doctor may direct the individual towards prescriptions and other approaches but also strongly remind people who have or had this fungus that it can repeat itself and occur again. First, some medications that are used are oral antifungal drugs which helps new nails grow free of infection and slowly replace the infected part of that nail. Some effective treatments of this type of medication are Emoninail, ZetaClear.Lamisil and Sporanox.
Zetaclear nail fungus treatment is one of the most preferred. As ZetaClear is a very trusted product, people prefer ZetaClear over anything else. You can take this drug for six to twelve weeks and can take as long as four months to get ride of the infection itself. Side effects of this type of drug can range from skin rash to liver damage and occasional blood tests may be needed for check ups. Second, another type of medication used is medicated nail polish. One popular one is called Penlac. With this method you paint it on your infected nails and surrounding skin once a day. After seven days you wipe the piled on layers clean by using alcohol and start fresh again with a new layer. If need be, this method can be used for a whole year. Lastly and third, another type of medication is medicated nail cream. You rub this cream into your infected nails after soaking. This helps the medication get through the hard nail surface and lets it reach the fungus.
Other procedures that can be used are removals or surgeries. With nail removal if the nail is infected severely and come off as extremely painful the doctor may suggest a removal. A new nail will grow in place of the old one and can be a slow process and take as long as a year to grow back completely. Another method that can be used are laser and light-based therapies which can help nails improve. A study that tested twenty four people with this nail fungus stated that the effectiveness of carbon dioxide laser therapy combined with antifungal nail cream benefited these twenty four people as a whole. Some disadvantages of these therapies are: they are not available every where, insurance does not cover it and they are extremely expensive.
